4th December: (from John
Jackson) Kurri's Kozza Smith the current NSW Longtrack
Champion, led the Kurri Cobras Speedway Club riders to win
the 2011 Husky Oils NSW Speedway Championships at Oakburn
Park, Tamworth Saturday night. Central Coasts NSW U/21
Champion, Taylor Poole, in second place, upset the Cobras
trifecta by qualifying via the exciting B Final relegating
Rohan "Racer" Tungate to third & Daine Stevens to fourth
place in the hard fought A Final.
With some upsets in the afternoons qualifying rounds and a
few engine swaps and the one tyre rule, rider presentations,
interviews and parade, the stage was set for a great night
of Speedway on the well prepared 450 meter track. Well done
Tamworth Motor Cycle Club! Get to Oakburn Park Feb. 11 for
the NSW Sidecar Championships.
Some dubious start marshalling and " I'll do it my way !"
starts by the
Referee in the early 3 lap rounds raised the ire of
spectators, competitors and race crew alike and resulted in
one angry prematch international favourite ready to pull out
of the State Championships. The race was started while he
was doing his pre-race rituals a metre off the start tapes!
The night was marred by a sidecar incident onto back
straight where Michael Farrell Jnr & Rod O'mealey touched
with Farrell's outfit tumbling down the track
causing serious rib injuries to 52 year old ex Darren Cafe
passenger Don Morris who is now convalescing in Tamworth
Hospital, get well soon Legend !
The B Final was a torrid affair with Somerset based Hunter
Motor Cycle Clubs Alex Davies and Ipswich based Taylor
"Tadpole" Poole swapping the lead while a disappointed
British Speedway Premier League Rider of the Year Somerset
based Cobra Sam Masters missed the cut and his night was
over, Alex was leading into last turn of the 4 lap B final
when Tadpole pulled the tight inside line got the drive and
won the drag to the tapes!
Tyler King couldn't hold off Cowra's Brady Kurtz in the 350
Final with a consistent Gunnedah's Jordan Dall in the
minors. Junior Multi Australian Dirt Track Champion Sean
McLennan was leader in 500 Solo Support.
Taylor joined qualifiers at the start line for pre A final
rider comments and had to wait while Daine Stevens chose the
inside gate 1 , Kozza 3, Rohan 4.
The green on and tapes up for final saw four riders through
the early turns bar to bar till Kozza pulled advantage on
Taylor and Rohan fought hard for his third riding under
Daine.
A little taste of the action in store for Kurri Cobras next
meeting the "Boxing Night Showdown" with an exclusive star
studded field that will not be seen at any other speedway in
Australia, this "Kurri Big Bang" summer speedway season!

10th October: (From John Jackson) Click
here to download the results of the Roy Thomsen Memorial
for junior speedway.
14th September: (From John Jackson) Lake Macquarie speedway competitor Denny Cox wouldn’t have needed a Mum or Dad lullaby to put him to sleep last night after a very busy and very successful day of racing at Kurri Kuuri Speedway yesterday (Sunday 11 Sept).
The young teenager competed in two completely different divisions of speedway racing and was the outright winner in both divisions.
Cox competed in the Junior 125cc Solo division and was passenger for Tom Pearce in the Junior Sidecar Division.
In the solo speedway division Cox competed in five rounds of point-scoring heat racing and won every round giving him maximum points to qualify for the Final. Then in the Final he scored another victory to give him a clean sweep of the division.
Cox was hard pressed for victory in the Final by Victorian teenager Corey Pangbourne. The Melbourne based youngster made the long journey to Kurri Kurri because he has very limited opportunity to race junior speedway in Victoria.
Denny’s brothers, Brady and Liam, also rode in the Junior 125cc Division making it a very busy and quite unique family challenge.
But Denny’s day didn’t finish there because he also rode as passenger for rider Tom Pearce in the Junior Sidecar events. Despite finishing second in their opening heat, Pearce and Cox then went onto win their next four heats to run out winners of the Junior Sidecar event.
Cox will now be one of the favoured riders in the 2011 Roy Thomsen Memorial meeting for junior riders being conducted by the Kurri Kurri Speedway Club on Sunday 09 October along with a program of senior solo and sidecar events.
14th August: (From John Jackson)
Great full days racing at Kurri Kurri Cobras Sunday August
14th.
Junior Solo 125 racing in morning was fast & furious. B, C &
A Junior Finals good races.
Well disciplined, no false starts, no broken tapes, no 15
metre start penalties for tape touching. Two new licences
tested and issued on the day, need to coach young riders to
do their "lay down" demonstration on the soft part of the
track!!
Junior sidecars were down on numbers but this will change
rapidly as Junior riders prepare fully for Januarys three
2012 Australian U/16 Titles during Big Bang Speed Week.
New dry canteen sold out, thanks to all those that helped to
get our Canteen Girls under cover, and they can still have
filtered views of the track.!!!!
Craig Hyde was doing a brisk trade at his very well stocked
Speedway Inc. lolly shop
Shower at lunchtime made Senior track challenging.
Perks had awkward fall but got his breath back and walked
away !!!
Jack Holder, a little tired after 3 am start watching
brother Chris ride at Swedish Grand Prix, has recovered from
broken collar bone football injury to win 350s but was
challenged all the way in final. Good training for the boys
for 350 Australian Titles at Kurri January Sat 28th.
Hayden Bond's demonstration ride on dads Senior sidecar was
very smooth, not like his 350 solo ride where jammed
throttle, turn one lay down & malfunctioning ignition cut
out, gave our hardworking Flag Marshall quite a few high
voltage shocks before they could quieten the screaming beast
!!!!
President Peter Campton let senior track wear through the
afternoons events, there was plenty of dirt out wide for
those who could handle the drive up to the air fence
3 full grids of well prepared, very competitive sidecars,
four abreast, spills and thrills, right turns and left
turns, Grant Bond wheelstanding out of turn two left
passenger Glen Cox on track rubbing his cheeks, not the
facial ones either!
Sidecar Final declared after Hudson jnr & Hudson snr back
straight racing incident, stretchered off with leg injury,
all are hoping everyone is ok.
Solo final was close and fast with wheelstanding Mason
Campton getting the drive out wide and running the fence
dirt from the last bend to squeeze past Kurri favourite
Rohan Tugate and win by a 23" spoke length!!!!
The "Dynamic Duo" are off to pommyland for as many meets as
they can muster, best of Cobras luck to you both!!!
"Ride Fast.... Ride Safe" the experience will be great and
will be good to see you back here to qualify with our
professional overseas riders for the three round 2012
Australian Titles.
Round two will be at Kurri Kurri Saturday Night Jan 14th
Two weeks later Saturday Night Jan 28th the "Dynamic Duo"
will be a force to be contended with in the Australian U/21
Championship. This is a Double Header in conjunction with
U/16 350cc Title. Qualifying will be Friday 27th.
Next Race Meeting at Kurri is Sunday Sept.11th, Juniors AM
Seniors PM.
To make this meeting smoother and follow a reasonable time
table, Cobras need race day staff to help with flags, sign
ons and lap scoring as our overworked girls cannot be in two
vastly separated places at once and then still have time for
a pie and pee!!!

6th June: Great weather, fast
track, close racing and enthusiastic crowd at Kurri Kurri
Cobras Motorcycle Speedway Loxford Park Kurri Kurri today.
Winner of the inaugural Todd Wiltshire Cup for Junior U/16
riders on 125cc machines was Jack Holder, youngest brother
of Chris Holder the current Australian Senior Solo Champion.
Second place went to Cowra's Brady Kurtz and third place to
current South Australian U/16 Champion, Victorian Max
Fricke. This is a reversal of positions 1 & 3 from when
these riders met earlier in the year at Kurri in the Johnnie
Hoskins Memorial meeting in February.
The format was five rounds followed by very even racing in
the C, B, and then A Final with on track presentation by 3
times World Teams Champion and third placed World Speedway
Champion Todd Wiltshire.
Junior sidecars were contested by Hudson, Gilbert & Bond.
350 U/16 was exciting final with Jack Holder pushing through
on last turn to edge out Brady Kurtz.
Senior Sidecars round wins to Hudsons senior & junior, Rod
Omealy ,Turner with Bond & Farrell in the mix.
In the senior solo rounds wins to Tungate, Campton and
Cartwright. Wallace & Rowe were always pressing for minor
positions.
Heat four incident in turn two where Rohan Tungate was
leading with Mason Campton in very close company, saw Rohan
locked up when his bike found too much traction, reared and
shot out from under him. Both riders fell but only suffered
minor injuries and damaged bikes. The referee excluded
Tungate and declared the race.
There were no finals run in the afternoon senior programme
as we were running short of time so positions were decided
on points scored through the rounds.
Motorcycling NSW Air safety fence had its Speedway debut
today and was instrumental in minimising risk and damage to
riders and machines.
See you all this Sunday 12th for the Grand Final of the Four
Team Tournament
Good Luck to all competitors in the 4TT Final Round @
Tamworth on Saturday.
